The Transition Year students were instrumental in the running of the open day this year. Most of the year group volunteered their time to help make the School Open Day a great success last week. This volunteering time will go towards their 13 hours voluntary work required to gain the Gaisce Bronze Award.
Students displayed great initiative in greeting the primary school students into classrooms and giving them information about OLM. They also helped the primary school students sample practical elements of secondary school subjects such as baking cakes, playing musical instruments and drawing in the technical graphics room.
I hope the students enjoyed taking on the responsibility during the morning tours and workshops.
The afternoon comprised of an interactive session with past pupils. These past pupils gave lots of sound advice to our current students, including ‘listen to the teachers, they know what they are talking about’ 🙂  and ‘keep working hard, even if you have a couple of knock backs’. The students spoke about college and the transition from secondary school to college. I hope the TY students gained something from this session and left with a piece of wisdom from OLM’s past pupils.
A big congratulations to Ms. Martin and the Performing Arts class who performed as a group for their first time to wrap up the Open Day.
