Congratulations to all of our TY students who have completed the first part of the Gaisce Bronze Award!!!
Our TY students ventured out on a trip to the Wicklow mountains of Thursday 24th September. The trip demanded a lot from our students, physically, mentally and socially but as always our students stood up to the challenge.
The trip entailed a 25 km walk and an overnight stay in Knockree Hostel in Enniskerry. On arrival to Enniskerry the students headed off on day 1 of the hike. They walked up Maulin Mountain where they came across some beautiful views of powerscourt waterfall and the sugarloaf. The hike included some steep inclines but this didn’t damper their spirits as they sang at the top of their voices for the whole duration of the walk.
We were treated to a fabulous meal in the hostel and then it was out for more walking 🙂
Although some students insisted that the 7:30 start would be too early for day 2, im pretty sure most managed to grace the breakfast table before all the teachers. The students prepared a lovely breakfast which even managed to include a hot option thanks to some of our resident chefs, Graham, Carl and Kristian. The students then prepared a well packed lunch bag for every student and teacher before heading on day 2 of the hike. Some students managed to reach the summit to enjoy the sprawling view of Dublin’s waterfront and mountains.
We hope that all the students enjoyed getting out to explore the Wicklow mountains and had an opportunity to talk to most of their classmates during the trip.
Due to the success of this trip, we are now working on organising the Camino trip. More information about this trip to come.
A big thank you to Ms. Maher, Ms. Byrne, Ms. Irwin, Ms. McConville, Mr. Hall and Mr. Kilbride for making the trip happen. Again a big congratulations to all the students who have completed the adventure journey for the Gaisce award. Students will receive more information about the other components of the award after the midterm break. Please check out the link below for more information about the Gaisce award.
